Describe in detail what your Organisation does:

Insimbi Legacy Projects NPC

We protect a crash of rhino in the Northern sector of Limpopo, unfortunately it is not viable to keep rhino any longer in private custodianship, but we don’t want to sell them based on the fact that we fear that they will be exported or hunted. We have promised to keep them safe and do all possible to keep their legacy going.
In addition we have created an awareness project with local schools in a rural village close to the property. Aiming to create interest for the youth to protect and conserve them for their future generations to enjoy in the wild.

How long has your Organisation been operational?

Officially since January 2018 / Unofficially since 2003.

In your opinion, what has been the most challenging aspect of running your Organisation?

Funds for paying security costs. (Average R30,000 per month) This is for a 2 man 24/7 team.
We have been funding this for the last 15 years out of our own pockets – but unfortunately we need help, therefore starting the non profit company.
Our other option is to sell them. (This is the last and most drastic option)

Describe your Nonprofit Journey in three words:

Passionate.
Challenging
heart-wrenching

Do you collaborate with other Causes? If yes, would you like to mention them?

Yes – Limpopo Rhino Security Group NPC

If you had one Organisation wish, what would it be?

Assistance with funds to pay for rhino security.

In your opinion, which skills do Nonprofits in your Country lack?

Ranger training – especially with technology / firearm training.

Looking back at your Cause Journey, what advice would you give a newbie Organisation?

Honesty and reputation in the rhino industry is very important. Always be honest, transparent and keep your name clean,

If you could change one thing about the Nonprofit Landscape, what would it be?

Too many non profits making money out of wildlife – yet they don’t actually help the real custodians. Only the big guys (Provincial parks or big corporate companies) get all the assistance.
Why ? Because they get more marketing out of it.
So the little guys suffer because they don’t have the big following.

Which Cause achievement are you most proud of? Feel free to elaborate on why and include any links:

We have had a zero rate of poaching since 2014.
We have had a 50% increase in our rhino crash in 4 years.

Last question, if your friends had to describe your Organisation in three words, which would they use?

“boots on the ground”
