IT IS A REGISTERED CHRISTIAN MINISTRY AND NON-PROFITABLE ORGANISATION WHICH PROVIDES A LOVING AND CARING TEMPORARY HOME, FOOD AND CLOTHING TO DESTITUTE, HOMELESS, ABANDONED, ABUSED, UNEMPLOYED WOMEN, MEN AND CHILDREN. THE ARK OPENED ITS DOORS IN 1992 IN RESPONSE TO THE EXTREMELY HIGH RATE OF HOMELESS AND UNEMPLOYMENT IN THE WESTERN CAPE. IT IS UNIQUE AMONG ORGANISATIONS AND IS THE LARGEST ONE OF ITS KIND IN THE WORLD. SINCE OUR INCEPTION, NEARLY 120 000 PEOPLE HAVE WALKED THROUGH OUR GATES IN NEED OF HELP. CURRENTLY, WE AVERAGE ABOUT 1000 PEOPLE. WOMEN 300, CHILDREN /YOUTH 160 AND MEN APPROXIMATELY 540. THEY ARE FROM ALL WALKS OF LIFE AND ARE MADE UP OF DIFFERENT RACES, CULTURES AND CREEDS. AMONG THEM ARE STREET CHILDREN, THE DESTITUTE AND ABUSED, THE TERMINALLY ILL, DRUG ADDICTS, ALCOHOLICS AND PROSTITUTES, H.I.V/A.I.D.S SUFFERERS, UNMARRIED SINGLE MOMS, SINGLE WOMEN… THE LIST IS ENDLESS

In your opinion, what has been the most challenging aspect of running your Organisation?

VEGETABLES, RICE, MAIZE MEAL, COOKING OIL, FLOUR, THICKENING AGENT, SUGAR, TEA, COFFEE, SPICES, ANY TIN FOODS.

TOILETRIES: DEODORANT, SHAMPOO, RAZORS, FACE CLOTHS, TOOTHPASTE, TOOTHBRUSHES, SOAP, SANITARY TOWELS, DIAPERS FOR ADULTS AND CHILDREN
BABY FORMULA
CLEANING MATERIALS: WASHING POWDER, JIK, BLEACH, DISHWASHING LIQUID, PINE, HANDY ANDY, SAVLON
FOR OUR FARM: ORGANIC PESTICIDES, COMPOST
STATIONARY FOR OUR SCHOOL

Do you collaborate with other Causes? If yes, would you like to mention them? 

WE DONATE WHATEVER CLOTHING AND EXCESS ITEMS WE HAVE TO THE COMMUNITY AND BESIDES FEEDING OUR 3000 MEALS A DAY TO OUR RESIDENTS WE DO HELP THE LOCAL COMMUNITY AND THOSE COMING TO OUR GATES FOR SOMETHING TO EAT.

If you had one Organisation wish, what would it be? 

WE NEED R150 000.00 FOR OUR SCHOOL WHICH IS ON OUR PREMISES GRADE R TO GRADE 9 FOR TEXTBOOKS, RUNNING COSTS AND PAPER.

In your opinion, which skills do Nonprofits in your Country lack? 

GEETING OUR VOICE TRULY HEARD, AND PEOPLE WHO TAKE INTEREST IN OUR NPO JUST FOR IMPORTANT DAYS SUCH AS MANDELA DAY…

Looking back at your Cause Journey, what advice would you give a newbie Organisation? 

HAVE FAITH.. BE STRONG AND LET GOD

If you could change one thing about the Nonprofit Landscape, what would it be? 

TO FEATURE MORE ABOUT NPO’S AND THEIR CAUSES

Which Cause achievement are you most proud of? Feel free to elaborate on why and include any links: 

THE FACT THAT WE ARE FAITH BASED, AND DO NOT RECEIVE ANY HELP. THAT ALL OUR STAFF ON THE ARK DO NOT RECEIVE MONTHLY INCOMES, BUT HAVE LAID DOWN THEIR LIVES VOLUNTARILY TO GIVE BACK TO THE COMMUNITY.
